Today BMS students and staff celebrated the International Day of Peace with an all-school assembly and display of their community art project.
For the previous week, classrooms worked together on a paper collage mural inspired by the work of artist Laura Petrovich-Cheney. Laura Petrovich-Cheney is an artist whose media is deeply rooted in humans’ connection to the environment, often created from debris left after natural disasters. Lower Elementary created collaged houses out of recycled paper and other items. Upper elementary integrated their measurement and operations work in mathematics to create scale collages of the school buildings. It was assembled into a community mural and is on display outside of the main office. Stop by and check it out, it’s really beautiful!
Today at 2pm students also gathered to sing songs and share inspirational quotes to remind us that we are each a small but important part of an interconnected community that has the ability to make the world a better place. Around two hundred voices lifted together in song, with students ages 3-12 and staff together in the commons, and guest Connie Loftman (past BMS parent and mother of alum-turned-teacher Eve Cusack) accompanying on the piano.
It was a moving moment of togetherness. Thank you to all of the students and staff for helping mark this year’s International Day of Peace!
