Bloomington Montessori School would like to say “thank you” to Lotus Blossoms and our parent-owned-business sponsor, Grease Monkey, for helping our students experience Tuvan throat singing! Alash, comprised of four musicians with wind, percussion, and string traditional instruments and amazing vocal technique, has been a touring band for more than 20 years, bringing the traditional music of Tuva to the world. If you have never experienced Tuvan throat singing, check out the video below. It’s an amazing vocal art that allows practitioners to sing multiple notes at the same time.
The students got to learn about the three types of throat singing techniques, as well as about the culture in the Republic of Tuva (which is inside Russia). We heard an amazing variety of instrumental and vocal skill. The students asked great questions. We really enjoyed the visit! We are so fortunate to live in a community with opportunities for such incredible experiences.
Thank you, Alash!
