Janelle Terkhorn, President
Janelle grew up in Indianapolis, moving to Bloomington in 2006. She graduated from Indiana University in 2010 with a degree in English. Her coursework was mainly focused on research and education. She and her husband currently homestead on their small hobby farm on the outskirts of Bloomington. They have one son at BMS and are pleased to be part of the Montessori family.
Anne Sterling, Vice President
Anne Sterling is the Vice President of State Affairs for the Humane Society of the United States, where she oversees the organization’s public policy efforts in 35 states in addition to investigations and research. She has extensive experience running legislative animal advocacy campaigns, managing a large, remote staff and working in the not-for-profit sector, having also worked for Kiwanis International and Habitat for Humanity in community building and fundraising. Anne’s son, Wilder, is a second grader at BMS in the Maple classroom. She is excited to join the BMS board and volunteer on behalf of its community of families and staff.
Joanna Ausborn, Treasurer
Joanna is on faculty at the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University. She is an economist with expertise in the areas of policy and nonprofit organizations. She will be living in Denmark with her family this year. She is excited to continue serving as the Treasurer of the board at BMS and volunteer on behalf of its community of families from abroad.
Christine Lovelace, Secretary
Christine brings a strong background in nonprofit and arts administration to her role as Board Secretary, with experience supporting leadership teams in mission-driven organizations and leveraging technology to increase efficiency. Passionate about whole-child education, she believes in nurturing children’s natural curiosity, self worth, and connection to the world around them—especially through time in nature and meaningful community engagement. She is honored to contribute to a school community that shares her commitment to holistic, lifelong learning and peace.
Dejohn Rose, Member At-Large
DeJohn Rose is a co-owner of Andrew Davis Clothiers, a local men's clothing boutique. Born and raised in Bloomington, he has been a BMS parent for four years with a daughter currently in Walnut, and a son starting in Hickory in the fall. After graduating from the University of Arizona, he spent a decade working in the men's clothing industry in New York City before returning to his hometown in 2021 with his wife and two kids. He currently serves on the BMS development committee and previously helped plan events on the PAC.
Elizabeth Thompson, Member At-Large
Elizabeth Thompson is a seasoned healthcare professional and visionary leader with a diverse background that integrates creativity, business acumen, and a passion for service. She began her educational journey in graphic design at the University of Evansville, Harlaxton College, and Indiana University, discovering her ability to channel creativity into innovative solutions across various fields. After several years in the medical field, she pursued further education in business, earning a summa cum laude BS degree and a master's in organizational leadership from the University of Evansville.
Professionally, Elizabeth has made significant contributions to healthcare, beginning as Practice Administrator at Aegis Women’s Healthcare in 2004. She successfully implemented marketing campaigns, strategic plans, compensation models, and staff certification programs to drive business growth and enhance service delivery. Later, as Executive Director of Volunteers in Medicine, she led the startup of the nonprofit medical clinic, excelling in public relations, grant management, and fundraising. Her efforts established partnerships with healthcare professionals and institutions, resulting in sustainable funding and the creation of a medical home model. She is currently serving with Indiana University Health leading operations in surgical services.
Elizabeth has served on the board of the Local Council of Women, as well as the Advisory Board for National Healthcare Association. She has two married daughters and three grandchildren with one more due in June. Outside work, Elizabeth is also an artist, enjoying activities like hiking and kayaking to maintain a balanced, fulfilling life.
Alex Burch, Member At-Large
Alex Burch has been a BMS parent for two years with his older child currently in the Magnolia classroom. He has lived in Bloomington since 2010, with a few years' absence to live in China and D.C. Alex has degrees in economics, Chinese, and public administration, and has worked mostly in financial management with additional experience in data analysis, international legal compliance, and HR. He and his wife Kate also founded and ran an escape room in downtown Bloomington from 2017-2023. After being promoted to full-time homemaker in 2024, he has spent his free time learning more about meeting facilitation and organizational governance in support of his cohousing neighborhood.
Lisa Ziemba, Member At-Large
Lisa Ziemba is new to the BMS Board, and is currently spending her days raising her two children with her husband, Steve. She holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Kelley School at Indiana University and, prior to having kids, was the Director of Human Resources at MPC in Denver, CO. She brings prior board experience having served as treasurer, vice president, and president successively of a philanthropic organization focused on youth development. She and her family moved back to Bloomington in the summer of 2024, and her oldest is a student in the early childhood program.
Adriana Fernandez, Member At-Large
Adriana Fernandez and her family have been proud members of the BMS community since 2021. She has served as Co-Chair of the BMS Parent Action Committee (PAC) for last three years and as a PAC member prior to that. In her time working with PAC, she has been involved with and helped to oversee school events, service-learning projects, and fundraising initiatives. She holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts Management from the University of Iowa, and has worked as a freelance arts manager for nonprofit and academic institutions throughout the country. She taught in the Arts Management and Administration Program at Indiana University for seven years. Adriana has three children at Bloomington Montessori School and looks forward to the opportunity to serve on the Board and continue to support the BMS community.
Garrett Schopp, Member At-Large
Garrett Schopp was born and raised in Bloomington IN where he attended Bloomington Montessori School through sixth grade. He holds degrees in operations, management, and law from Indiana University and works for National Salvage, a recycling company headquartered in Bloomington Indiana where he has worked both as an accounting Controller and an Operations Manager, overseeing the removal and disposal of 7,000,000 railroad ties annually. Garrett and his wife Ewa have two children - Isabella and Oliver - currently attending Montessori. He sits on the board of The Warehouse, a community center in Bloomington and both he and his wife are active volunteers in the Montessori community.
