Giving Tuesday Gives and Gives!

Posted in ,

December 2nd was Giving Tuesday, a globally recognized day centered on the power of giving and the positive impact of nonprofits. It was launched in 2012 as a social media focused movement to counter the consumerism of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Besides monetary donations, Giving Tuesday also encourages acts of kindness, volunteerism, and community spirit. Giving Tuesday spread quickly across the globe and was an active movement in over 90 countries by 2023.

Here at Bloomington Montessori, we use the positive energy of Giving Tuesday each year to launch our annual campaign. Giving Tuesday acts as a kick-off event and Quinn (Head of School) and Jess (Assistant Head of School) hold a live Facebook event throughout the day, with matching sponsors, silly trivia and jokes, and information about Montessori and BMS. Campus is hopping, with popcorn and parent Steve Mascari and his friend Andy playing live jazz music for the crowds during dismissal. Donations come in via cash, check, and FACTS throughout the day to take advantage of our sponsorship match opportunities.

This year, we raised a total of $17,400 during Giving Tuesday, the most ever in one day! We are especially grateful to our sponsors who helped this happen! These funds are part of the annual campaign, which goes to three major initiatives:

  • Student scholarships
  • Teacher development
  • Campus improvements

Thank you to everyone who supports BMS through donations, volunteering, guest presenting, and more! It takes a village!
