Book collection and food drive underway (see below)

Food Drive to Benefit MCUM

BMS is participating in the spring food drive organized by Monroe County United Ministries (MCUM). Monroe County has the highest poverty rate of any county in Indiana, and 89% of local families report having some trouble affording food. 33% of the children in the county receive free or reduced lunches at school.

With so much need, we are joining the efforts of MCUM to help struggling families have access to food resources.

From March 19 to March 30, please bring or send in with your child a donation of non-perishable food products. Drop-off boxes are located in both buildings. Recommended items are any canned goods, cereal, mac and cheese, rice and beans. MCUM also accepts unopened cleaning and hygiene items, such as laundry and bar soap, deodorant and all-purpose cleaners.

We are aiming to collect over 2,000 lbs. of food. Students will have an opportunity to weigh our contribution and deliver it to MCUM.

Thank you so much for your generosity!

Book Sale to Support Staff Appreciation Day

Each year parents show our support of the faculty and staff through Staff Appreciation Day, when we provide staff with a delicious luncheon. To raise the funds for this, the PAC is holding its now annual Book Sale.

We will begin the collection of books on March 19. The sale will be from April 2 to April 13. Books should be family friendly/appropriate. Last year we had a range of genres, including travel, culture, music, education, photography, self-help, picture books, novels, chapter books and cook books. We also welcome donated board games, card games, puzzles, etc. that have all the pieces.

Drop-offs will be in both buildings.

There are now sign-up sheets on the office windows for parents to volunteer at the sale as well as bring in popcorn for us to sell.

This a wonderful way to show our support for the faculty and staff who work so hard on behalf of the students, while doing a bit of spring cleaning. Thank you for your donations!
