Welcome Letter

Dear BMS Early Childhood Parents,

We are looking forward to the beginning of the school year. We have classrooms staffed with experienced, dedicated teachers who are ready to guide your children through the Montessori curriculum. For new parents, feel free to bring up any questions or concerns you have at our New Parent Orientation Meeting, Monday evening, August 5th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Please familiarize yourself with our classroom customs (or Classroom Information) prior to this meeting. You can access them by going to the BMS website at http://bloomingtonmontessori.org. From the menu select “Classrooms” and then choose your child’s classroom tree name. This will give you access to the class information. When you have a user ID and password, you will be able to use the Parent Portal to look at the school directory, etc.   There will be a Welcome Reception for all families from 4:00 to 5:00 on the Lower Playground on Tuesday August 6th.

When you bring your child to school on the first day, please plan a brief goodbye outside the classroom door. A teacher will be there to greet your child and help with the transition. If you want to observe your child, the observation room will be available. Each day your child will spend time working, playing outside and attending a short group meeting. Please do not come to the playground fence to speak to your child or wave to your child as this is distracting to the children’s play. We encourage children to be at school every day (except in case of illness). Absences can be difficult for children, as the developmental needs of this age include consistency and a sense of order. Frequent absences also affect the social life of the class, including a child’s relationship with his or her peers and teachers.

Students of the All-Day Early Childhood classrooms should bring a small pillow, blanket and small stuffed animal for use during rest time. All incoming three-year- old should bring a change of clothing to keep at school in case of accidents or spills. Your child should keep a pair of hard-soled, well-fitting “inside shoes” in the classroom for indoor use. Please label all your child’s belongings.

Please be sure that all paperwork is turned into the office prior to the first day of school, Wednesday, August 7th. If your child has allergies or dietary needs, please mention them to us in addition to filling out the forms in the office.

We will see you in August!
